Walnut oil
Do you love walnuts? Have you tried nut oil?
In the past, the walnut oil has been used to treat many health problems, including stomach and skin problems, hair loss, and even diabetes. Nowadays, it is viewed as being a valuable source of fat.
The walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acid ALA (alpha linolenic acid) that our body uses to produce indispensable EPA and DHA. This is important for those of you who, for one reason or another, want to get omega-3 fats of plant origin. The walnut oil is an excellent source of omega-9, which is important for the health of the arteries as well as omega-6, which are beneficial for hair, skin and reproductive system. Here we have to note that due to some specificities of the modern food industry, we are all likely to take omega-6 in much larger quantities than necessary and should be careful. However, we will dedicate a whole separate article to this.
Perhaps the most important advantage of walnut oil is the high content of antioxidants. Among the nuts, the walnuts are one of the best sources of antioxidants. They contain ellagic acid, which neutralizes carcinogens in the body and prevents the division of cancer cells. The antioxidant effect of walnuts and walnut oil is enhanced by the manganese and copper-containing minerals that catalyze antioxidant reactions. Last but not least, they are a natural source of melatonin – a hormone produced by the pineal gland and playing an important role in the regulation of sleep.
We should not forget that walnut oil is above all food and only then a “dietary supplement”. Very delicious food by the way. The high content of omega-3 makes it inappropriate for heat treatment, but it is an indispensable assistant in preparing salad dressings or in flavoring roasted fish and meat. Its dense but delicate taste combines extremely well with the acid of balsamic and wine vinegar. To appreciate its merits, you can try our favorite salad for which you will most likely need:
