Although there are many types of walnut trees, three are the main types of walnuts that are consumed: English (or Persian) walnut, black walnut and white walnut. Today, the leading producers of walnuts are the United States, Turkey, China, Iran, France and Romania.
The walnuts are one of the foods that causes allergies. They should not be consumed in clean, isolated form so as not to trigger undesirable allergic reactions.
The walnuts are an excellent source of omega essential fatty acids. The walnuts are also a very good source of manganese and a good source of copper. In addition, the walnuts contain the antioxidant and phytochemical – ellagic acid. 25 grams of walnuts contain 163 calories, 3,81 grams of proteins and 16,30 grams of fats.
Perhaps few people know that the cosmonauts, when flying in space, eat special foods, one of which is walnut paste. It gives a lot of strength and resilience in the weightless conditions in which the astronauts are located.
The walnuts reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis and diabetes because they control insulin resistance. Walnuts should be eaten during pregnancy because the baby receives omega 3 acids which are important for its development.
If you cannot fall asleep at night, you should eat walnuts because they are rich in the hormone melatonin that regulates sleep.
Do not overdo eating walnut nuts because they can cause headaches and cramps of blood vessels. The best way to consume walnuts is when you grind them. In this way they are utilized as much as possible. If you champ whole walnuts, the human stomach hardly grinds them down and loses useful substances.
The walnuts have one disadvantage – they are deposited on the walls of the human colon. The easiest way to digest walnuts is to take them before bedtime because they penetrate to the maximum extent in the body that is at rest.
